The Heininger 3058 PortablePET PortaBottle is a great item to have when going on an outing with your dog. The carrying strap is adjustable and also removable. I wouldn’t want to remove the strap too many times however since the part holding the strap onto the bottle doesn’t seem solid enough to handle repeated removals. I was expecting the part which the dog drinks from to be hinged or slide down. Instead, it is a pliable plastic that you turn inside out to create the drinking cup. It works fine but is a little awkward–especially when putting it back to the original, non-drinking position. I was also surprised that the top on the bottle was not like those you see on a sports bottle…this is more like a spout. Although it hasn’t leaked yet, I think it will start at some point in the not too distant future. All-in-all a great accessory to have handy. The sturdiness is my only concern.

A Very Convenient Bottle That Your Dog Will Thank You For Buying!, August 27, 2010

The Heininger Automotive PortablePET PortaBottle is a very convenient and functional product to have when you’re going to be out for awhile with your dog. The bottle is quite functional, holding up to 20 ounces of water, has a sealable nozzle to prevent leaking, and its wide mouth enables you to put ice in it to keep the water cold for a good length of time. Further, the bottle holder quickly and easily converts to a drinking cup when turned inside out. And, the bottle when resting in its holder is conveniently carried around by its adjustable and easy to remove strap. However, similar to the concern expressed by a few other reviewers, I have some concern about the durability over time with the plastic-like part that holds the strap to the bottle. Of course, this has not been a problem for me to-date, and it may never become one. But this part doesn’t seem too sturdy. Putting that concern aside, I’d recommend this PortaBottle to you, and I think if you buy it your dog will thank you for doing so.

Okay product, with some flaws, February 12, 2009

I bought this after looking through several other products listed on Amazon, as well as other products from pet stores. I was drawn to this bottle because it promised better capacity than others. It works, and it does indeed offer better capacity than most of the other pet water bottles out there. However I wasn’t too impressed with the bottle. The bottle is 20oz, with a wide mouth, pull out water release, and a fold down bowl. It also has a carry strap attached to the bottle so that you can easily carry the bottle on walks. All these features sound promising on paper, but they don’t all play out that way.

First, the major appeal here, the flip down bowl. When I first read the description I thought it meant a bowl that flips down on a sort of hinge, but that’s not the case. The bowl is made of thick rubber which is attached directly to the bottle, and to flip it down for use you have to turn the rubber inside out. This works for now, but I fear the rubber at the base will ware out quickly from repeated flipping and will break.

Second, the carry straps, while the straps seem hardy enough for the job of carrying a 20oz bottle of water, their attachment to the bottle does not. One of the plastic attachments has already broken, after one use. This isn’t a huge deal, since it can be fixed with super-glue, or the bottle can still be used without the straps, but it’s still an annoying flaw.

The bottle does a decent job, which is why I rated it 3 stars, and it serves its function. I just think that it could have been made a bit hardier. But that being said, I haven’t yet seen a ‘great’ portable water bottle for dogs. It’s worth it’s price considering that other brands sell for the same amount at pet stores and offer less water capacity or less portability. So until a better product crosses my path, this will have to do.

    Getting a replacement, October 26, 2011

This review is from: CSB Dog Toilet Bowl (Misc.)

I’ve had one of these bowls several years and it finally cracked. Everyone thinks it’s hilarious and it keeps the dog and cat watered for a couple of days at a time. Today’s 2-liter bottles aren’t heavy enough to do the job and I long ago switched to a 1.75 liter plastic rum bottle (not as big around but works well). I simply stick my finger in the neck of the bottle as I invert it, remove my finger and quickly slip the bottle in place – I never make a mess. My “mess” has been my Cocker’s block head when he tries to retrieve a morsel dropped between his food dish and the water bowl – several times he’s ended up knocking over the water/toilet bowl. It can be a lotta water. It wouldn’t be a problem if I had more room to space them out, but the last time he did it the “tank” finally cracked – big time. I love it enough to replace it. BTW, I like the slot in the back; I have easy access with an old toothbrush to clean back there.

Looks amazing. It’s a hilarious conversation piece. But it’s a mess! The water is so close to the top of the “toilet bowl” that my dogs splatter it everywhere (much more so than a regular dog bowl). There is also a hole cut in the back of the “toilet tank” that I assume (?) is there so you can see the water level in your 2 liter bottle. When you turn a 2 liter bottle full of water over into the back, a little water splashes out of that hole most of the time. Personally, I can do without the hole and have taped it up (since it’s against the wall anyway). Yes, I tried putting the “toilet” onto the bowl and flipping the combination over, but it made me scared the whole thing would go flying out of my hands and break.

We bought this after seeing it at a place of business for their cat. Unfortunately, one of my cats think it is a birdbath or something. First few days we had water everywhere as he splashed in it to make the bottle release more water and make the bubbling sound. That has slowed down some now, but he loves to still put his paws in for a dip and place his toys in it. Not sure the attraction – did not have this issue with his other bowl. I like the ease of having ready water, with would be less need to fill, if my cat didn’t make the water dirty with his antics. It is a cool item and a great conversation piece.
