    5-Star Room for My 5-Star Cats!, July 15, 2007

I bought this house 3 years ago. For the first two years of use, it was on my covered porch and exposed to alot of the elements and held up very well. (I stuffed it with clean straw for winter use.) Easy to assemble, though it does take about 30 mintues. It is also easy to keep clean. I would buy another in a flash – but don’t have the room!

My four cats love this house! For a while only my outside cat used it. It took him a week or two to get used to it, but then it became his favorite outside spot. Now that he is happy living inside, he shares the house with his two brothers and sister. Quite often there is one large cat sleeping on the bottom level, while one or two are on the balcony doing “guard duty” at the window! Every one who sees the house comments on the attractive and fun design, esp. the balcony. This house is worth the price!

My dogs love this lookout post!, September 20, 2009
This review is from: Merry Pet MPS002 Wood Room with a View Pet House (Misc.)

I have had this pet house for four-and-a-half years and it is still going strong. It is great for relatively small dogs, I’d say up to 15-20 lbs. I put a square dog bed with bolster sides on top to make it comfy, and my two chihuahuas, 7 lbs and 4 lbs, are usually up there together enjoying each other’s company. There’s plenty of room for both. They can both easily climb the steps and get into the bed.

The house is next to the main front window in my house, and my dogs use the top deck as a lookout perch. It is absolutely their favorite place — if I’m looking for them in the house that’s the first place I check. They watch the bikers, dog walkers, cats, etc. go by and bark at them. Great entertainment for them (even if a little loud for me.) Neither one of them likes to stay in the little room underneath (although sometimes the littlest one hides in it when she knows she’s been bad), but it is perfect for storing dog toys. Just toss them through the large door and voila, everything is picked up. My dogs know where their toys are and readily go into the little room to get them.

The house was easy to assemble and it is very sturdy. It’s also lightweight, so it’s easy to move around if necessary. The stairs are worn now (mainly the top two), but that’s to be expected after 4+ years of constant use, and the appearance of the steps isn’t really objectionable. The wear merely represents how much use the steps get.

I would absolutely recommend this pet house to a friend. It was a tad expensive, but it has proved to be the best purchase I’ve ever made for my small dogs.

An ‘OK’ cat house-Needs modified for outdoor use, October 3, 2009

I purchased this house for my indoor/outdoor cat for $80 from Petsmart. I’ve been searching the internet for weeks for an affordable, quality cat house (to no avail). This was very easy to put together, took me about 15 minutes, although I omitted the lattice and steps (which seem useless for cats) and modified the front entrance. I took both sides of the steps and cut them to fit the front, gluing them one on top of the other across the bottom part of the entrance. Since this will be used during the winter, I wanted a smaller opening and something more protective from snow and rain. My 15 lb. cat eases in and out of it without any problem with the smaller opening.
And yes, I did have to caulk it, it would have most definitely leaked, there were gaps between the wood. I caulked the top and sides, sealing every single seam. I also gave it a coating of waterproof stain (additional supplies cost $15). The wood is thin and it’s aromatic but not overwhelming. My cat seems to like it, taking to it quickly and it will keep him dry and warm, serving its purpose. Worth the price even on sale? Probably not, but with the modifications I made, I think it will work fine for my cats needs.

This Review has the measurements for the large barnhome, December 1, 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

When I was shopping for 2 dog houses for our large breed dogs, I almost purchased a more expensive house as many of the reviews are for the small sized Petmate Barnhome or the Medium sized. The dimensions of the LARGE Barnhome are 38in x 29in x 30in. This house is big enough for our 120 pound pit bull, our two 75lb. coonhounds and our 80lb blue heeler. This house is much roomier and taller than this photo listed for the product makes it seem.

We have strong winds and we live in a lowland area in which the ground stays wet after it rains for longer than usual. We have 2 of these Large sized dog houses and neither one of them has blown away due to strong winds. We don’t have them staked to the ground and they’ve still stayed put. Also, the bottom raised lip of the doorway keeps the water from getting in the house.

The only thing that I’d recommend in extremely windy winters is to either order the flap that latches onto the door entrance of this house or hang a rug from the top of the doorway to keep wind from coming into the house as much (which is what we did).

Before, we had the Igloo dog houses and the dogs always got them apart and ruined them because, they had flimsy plastic tabs holding the heavy top to the flimsy bottom. So far, the dogs haven’t got these houses apart and believe me they have tried!

Overall, I’m very pleased with these dog houses. Our dogs seem to like them too. For the price, I don’t think these can be beat, unless of course you build your own. Our dogs give this house 5 bow wows all the way around!

Cats are loving the dog house. Mommy likes it too. The house was easy to order and the delivery was excellent. Putting it together was really simple: snap, snap. The cats and I are very happy about their indoor home to play and sleep in. When my cat Put Put was feeling ill he slept in the house until he began to feel better. I purchased the house for my outdoor cat Bo who refuses to come into the house. Now that we are having freezing temperatures in TN; I grabbed Bo and now he is an indoor cat until spring. He loves his indoor house and occasionally will share it with the other cats. This is an excellent product and nicely designed.

Chucky loves his house!, June 16, 2011

My 90 lb. pitbull Chucky, a foster dog, loves this doghouse. I will find him outside laying in it even though he has freedom to come in thru his doggy door. I have to beg him to leave it and come sleep in the house at night, and sometimes he prefers to stay in it. It is sturdy, very very inexpensive compared to others, and extra roomy, with lots of space for air circulation. I just tossed a thin cushion into it and he loves laying in there. Best money spent in years.
